lebenslauf und werdegang:
Mike Shane, Künstler mit luxemburgisch-amerikanischen Wurzeln, lebt und arbeitet seit 1989 in Österreich.
Seine fundierte graphische, malerische und illustrative Ausbildung absolviert er in Luxemburg (Beaux-Arts, Luxembourg) und Österreich (Wiener Graphische) und Designstudio St.Pölten.
Seit 1993 stellt er seine Werke in Wien und Luxemburg aus.
Von 1997 bis 1999 ist Mike als Designer und Eventdekorateur für Arcotel Hotels & Resorts tätig, bis er im Frühjahr 1999 unter dem Titel "the visualizer" eine Konzeptions- und Kreativgemeinschaft gründet. Als einer der ersten Künstler in Österreich startet er seine Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema Bodypainting im Oktober 1999.
Seither ist Mike Shane als freischaffender Künstler mit Schwerpunkt Bodypainting und Wandmalerei tätig.
Mit seinem Action Painting hat Mike eine besondere Form Körpermalerei geprägt, bei der das Kunstwerks live - eingebettet in Musik und Choreographie– vor den Augen der Zuseher entsteht.
Mike zeichnet seine Fähigkeit aus, Innovation, Kreativität und Detailtreue – zum Beispiel bei der
Umsetzung von Logoarbeiten – zu verbinden und in ein Gesamtkunstwerk umzusetzen. Unzählige Werbeaufträge renommierter Unternehmen zeugen von der Überzeugungskraft seiner Werke.
Seit 2005 unterrichtet Mike im Rahmen der Bodypainting Academy und hält Workshops für Commercial Bodypainting.
Zu weiteren Highlights in seinem Schaffen gehören die Produktionen von Werbe-und Imagespots, z.b. für den WWF, sowie Fernsehauftritte in zahlreichen Sendern und die Mitwirkung in Austria’s Next Topmodel.
2001 wird Mike zum Vize-Europameister im Bodypainting in der Kategorie Pinsel und Schwamm gekürt.
2010 erhält er gemeinsam mit CREACHIEF Kollegen Chris Obsn den Vizeweltmeistertitel in der Kategorie Airbrush.
2011 belegt er den 3.Platz beim Samui Bodypainting Festival in Thailand
2011 wird er vom venezuelanischen Kulturministerium zum 6e encuentro mundial de arte corporal in Caracas eingeladen und performt dort live im Teatro Teresa Carreno vor 2.500 Zuschauern.
Einige seiner Werke wurden zeitgleich im Museo de bellas artes in Caracas ausgestellt.

Mike Shane’s style of bodypainting is exhilarating and potent. His creation of the ‘action painting’ style is an innovation and a breakthrough. The technique remains his alone, as he works in the ‘now’ to colour moments of space and time. His work brings together all the necessary aspects of bodypainting - painter, performer, photographer, with such clarity of vision that his artwork is unforgettable.
Mike has studied fine arts and in his performances work with athletic and balletic models whose movements are elegant and intriguing. Mike’s radical liquid splashes of colours contrast with each other on ever changing levels as he composes, changes and destroys his fluid orchestral artworks. His works also celebrate the movement of paint with gravity, how fast, where and why it will move a certain way over the shapes it reaches.
Mike has created an impressive portfolio of work for advertising and promotion. Some of these works are carried out in his action painting style but many of them show a separate angle to his work that is equally creative. Mike is able to take the logo or idea of the company he is contracted by and to design it into a bold pattern of colours that lives on the body. These bodypaintings are equally important as they show that it is possible to create a commercial bodypainting and still have an artwork as a finished product.
